Job description

FT; Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Some evening hours may be required for presentations and events.

The Assistant Director of Student Employment is a member of the Student and Alumni Connections team. This position oversees the on-campus student employment system and coordinates with employers off campus through the State Work Study Program (SWSP). This position also provides support to students looking for employment opportunities and develops and administers a program including learning outcomes and professionalism curriculum to provide students with career-enhancing skills and the necessary preparation and assistance for competitive job markets. This position also trains student employees and supervisors to ensure uniform application and evaluation of learning objectives. This position reports to the Director of Operations and Virtual Engagement.

-Serve as a resource to employers and students by explaining campus policies and procedures in regards to student employment.
-Provide individual and group training.
-Communicate with on-campus employers about process for posting and hiring using the Career Connections Opportunities Board utilizing Symplicity; troubleshoot any job posting or hiring issues.
-Monitor and screen on-campus student employment data.
-Supervise student workers in the input of detailed data entry.
-Communicate with the Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid on student eligibility and awards.
-Communicate with the Payroll Specialist to ensure timely and correct data entry.
-Serve as liaison for SWSP employers and assist students with the application process.
-Coordinate the collection of W-4 and I-9 documentation with the Program -Coordinator and student staff; conduct student background checks through Alliance2020.
-Oversee manual data entry of student time sheets to facilitate reimbursement of off-campus employers in coordination with the Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC).
-Complete the PLU portion of job descriptions and contracts for off-campus employers involved in the State Work Study Program and submit to WSAC.
-Resolve data and payroll errors.
-Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student and employer information.
-Advise students on the student employment process and job opportunities through programs, presentations, and one-on-one meetings.
-Develop programs to incorporate learning outcomes and professionalism curriculum to provide students with career-enhancing skill, preparation, and assistance for competitive job markets.
-Train student supervisors across campus to implement learning outcomes program for student employees and serve as a resource to facilitate learning opportunities.
-Collaborate with members of the Alumni & Student Connections team as well as campus partners such as the ARTs committee, the dCenter, and the Center for Student -Success to improve student outcomes.
Perform other duties as assigned.

-Knowledge of ensuring compliance with US labor laws and USCIS employment regulations.
-Excellent computer skills with experience with advanced systems including Microsoft Office.
-Comfort with public speaking and leading trainings.
-Aptitude for collaborating and working as part of a team.
-Ability to learn appropriate contact management software.
-Ability to set priorities and manage details and multiple responsibilities.
-Highly motivated with the ability to work independently and as an integral part of a team.
-Ability to maintain confidentiality and interact with a diverse constituency base.

1. Four years of related experience. Education may substitute for some experience.
2. High school diploma or GED.
3. Finalist applicants must satisfactorily complete background check.

-Bachelor’s degree.
-Two years of Human Resources or Payroll experience.
-Experience in higher education.
