Finance & Business Operations Associate


Mantel is a technology startup operating in the defense and national security markets. We’re looking for a dynamic Finance & Business Operations Associate who enjoys working within a small, mission-driven entrepreneurial environment to join our team. Due to the nature of Mantel’s business, candidates must be US Citizens to be considered.


 


This position is part-time with the potential to become full-time in the future and will be based in our Steilacoom WA office.


 


Responsibilities


As a Finance & Business Operations Associate at Mantel, your responsibilities will include:


 



  • Finance

    • Work with the executive team and our external accounting partners to ensure Mantel’s day-to-day, monthly, and annual financial information is accurately captured

    • Work with the CEO and line management in annual budgeting activities

    • Work with the CEO in rate development and strategic rate discussions

    • Support internal and external audits of our accounting systems and practices; Ensure Mantel’s financial systems are maintained for efficient auditing

    • Support line operations through provision of standard and custom job and organization reports

    • Process time and expense for payroll

    • Manage accounts payable (invoice entry, payment queuing) and accounts receivable (invoice creation, invoice submission via WAWF and other customer billing systems)




 



  • Operations

    • Lead the identification, advocacy, and execution of approaches for improving operations through use of tools and processes

    • Manage and maintain current Mantel’s business licenses and permits

    • Support aspects of contracts administration to include deliverable tracking, contractor manpower reporting (CMR), and subcontractor deliverables

    • Assist in the onboarding of new employees as it pertains to use of operational tools

Success in this position will require a focus on consistently producing high quality work and collaboration with your colleagues and external partners and vendors. As a small company, a team environment characterized by shared urgency and reasonable transparency is essential.


 


Required Qualifications



  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate across teams and manage competing interests/priorities

  • Associate’s degree (minimum); Bachelor’s degree (preferred)

  • Work experience (you’ve worked in a similar work environment (military, defense/USG contractor, or technology startup) and have demonstrated experience in several of the domains required to effectively execute your responsibilities without significant supervision):

    • Master’s + minimum 2 years, or

    • Bachelor’s + minimum 3 years, or

    • Associate’s + minimum 5 years

    • Strong communication (written and verbal) skills; must be effective when communicating with people in-person, over the phone, via email, via text, etc.

    • Proficiency in the use of accounting software

      • Experience/expertise in Unanet is highly preferred

      • Experience/expertise in other platforms such as Netsuite, Costpoint, QuickBooks is a minimum requirement

      • Expert-level proficiency in MS Excel or similar spreadsheet program

      • Experience with MS Office, GSuite, and other standard business software tools

      • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance when and if required






 


Travel


Travel to Mantel’s other locations (<10%) may be required on a semi-annual basis.
