Pierce Transit's Communication Technicians provide maintenance support for the Single County Wide Communication System (SCWCS); a Motorola Solution next generation 700 MHz P25 Phase 2 Simulcast System platform.
The individual selected for this role will provide day-to-day leadership for a highly technical group of employees; operating in a cooperative and tactful manner to effectively guide the workgroup toward a sense of ownership and inclusiveness in meeting Pierce Transit strategic goals and objectives.
Working under the direction of the Fleet Assistant Manager this role will use their expertise to perform highly advanced technical tasks while also overseeing the voice/data communication systems next generation fare collection, security video network, and communication dispatch environment. Knowledge of and skill in applying:
Principles and practices of supervision to include training, mentoring, team building and performance management;
Telecommunications, data and microwave communication principles, industry standards, and best engineering practices for network design;
Intelligent transportation systems, security systems, and wireless systems;
Server management; network communication equipment installation and management; communication networking protocols;
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) suite and troubleshooting of network connectivity issues;
700 MHz system controller and network; console control systems; system management network subsystem;
Commercial two-way frequency modulation (FM) radio system commonly used to support public safety operations testing, repair, and maintenance;
Technical and operating methods, tools, and processes of computer controlled two-way radio and associated test equipment.
Skill in and Ability to:
Utilize logic and reasoning to analyze and evaluate complex situations and research information to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches;
Develop and maintain cooperative and professional relationships with employees at all levels to include representatives from other departments and organizations;
Assess hazards and threats facing critical infrastructure and the communities served; training staff on how to prevent, respond to and recover from prime risks; coordinate with other emergency response stakeholders; resume service delivery based on availability of resources;
Supervise complex projects for efficient and timely implementation;
Negotiate the allocation of scarce technical resources in situations involving multiple competing priorities.
Required: Bachelor's Degree in Applied Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Communications, Engineering, or a related field and four (4) years' experience with Motorola Solutions ASTRO 25 Technologies or Public Safety 25 (P-25) TDMA System Standard Technologies; leading and directing programs/projects; leading and managing highly technical communication technology professionals; Microwave Video Networking or P25 Microwave System Technologies; and FCC Regulatory Compliance; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Required Certification: (or ability to achieve within 1 Year)
Highly Desired Certifications:
Individuals in this sensitive security role must be able to pass a CJIS security background check initially for hire with an every five–year renewal compliance standard.
The successful completion of the following National Incident Management System (NIMS) training and certifications is required within the following time frames:
